St. Patrick's Day Facts
1. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the holy trinity to the pagan Irish. He is believed to have died on March 17th, around 460 A.D.
2.The saying "the Luck of the Irish" comes from the 1800's during the Gold Rush. A large number of Irish immigrants struck it rich in gold and silver.
3. St. Patrick used to be associated with the color blue, until the popularity of the green color grew due to its association with shamrocks and the Irish flag (green on the flag represents the Catholics of Southern Ireland, while Orange represents the Protestants in Northern Ireland).
4. Leprechauns are mythical creatures who are said to mend the shoes of other fairies. If you catch one, he's supposed to grant you three wishes.
